The Graze V.186: Widening Circles

Dear Friends,

These words from Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem have been swirling through my mind repeatedly this week as we prepared and gathered with friends and family. Despite the enjoyable food and warm company, it can be challenging to feel gratitude amidst the unrest in the world and in our lives. Rilke’s poem reminds me that it is not the destination but the journey that truly matters. Genuine thanksgiving requires creating space and time, asking many questions, and listening deeply.

Discovering this deeper presence within ourselves is an endless process of awareness and responsive action. This gift economy exists in Creation and is reflected in the food we share as we care for what has been given to us and reciprocate by giving to others.

WIDENING CIRCLES

I live my life in widening circles

that reach out across the world.

I may not complete this last one

but I give myself to it.

I circle around God, around the primordial tower.

I’ve been circling for thousands of years

and I still don’t know: am I a falcon,

a storm, or a great song?

- Rainer Maria Rilke

Blessings as you circle. May you find the widening and deepening Presence of Love in your life and may you share it freely.

🌱 Lisa
